Deadline to Submit Proposals is Friday, October 10, 2008

Are you interested in speaking at Japan's premier drug discovery & development event of the year? If so, now is your opportunity to submit a speaker proposal for IBC's 4th annual Drug Discovery & Development of Innovative Therapeutics taking place on June 1-3, 2009 at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. If you are accepted as a confirmed speaker, you will receive a complimentary conference pass to this event (a US$1499+ value!).

Simultaneous translation (Japanese/English) will be provided during the conference, so speakers may give their talks in either Japanese or English. However, we ask that you please submit a written summary of the proposed presentation in English.

We are currently accepting proposals for speaking presentations in the following topic areas that will form the basis of the Drug Discovery & Development of Innovative Therapeutics program:

  1. New Approaches and Technologies in Drug Discovery
    • New technologies for lead optimization and compound selection
    • Cell-based phenotypic assays and disease models using primary human cells and tissues
    • Fragment-based lead discovery
    • High quality, high content biology to understand targets/compounds in disease
  2. Strategies to Accelerate Compounds from Discovery to the Clinic and POC
    • Biomarker qualification and validation in cancer and other diseases
    • Preclinical/clinical case studies in oncology, metabolic disease, inflammation, CNS
    • Molecular imaging techniques
    • Emerging technologies from discovery to Phase 1
  3. Translational Medicine
    • Approaches to confirm target engagement and compound interaction
    • Case studies of translational medicine applied in different therapeutic areas
    • Funding translational research activities in academia/government
    • Techniques for patient selection and stratification in clinical trials
  4. The Next Wave of Antibody and Protein-Based Therapeutics
    • Next generation antibodies, antibody fragments and antibody-like scaffolds
    • RNAi therapeutics and technologies
    • Special strategies for orphan drugs
    • Combination cancer therapies
    • Stem cell-based therapies
    • Immunogenicity prediction
  5. Making Win-Win Drug Development Partnerships
    • Early clinical development deals to maximize value for both partners
    • New business models for collaborating on win-win partnerships
    • Case studies of successful partnerships: deal structures and terms that work
    • Capturing the global market through partnerships for your drug
    • Improving Japan-US-Euro Partnering/Deal-Flow
  6. Finding Innovation and New Technologies/Molecules in Discovery and Development
    • Industry-academic collaborations to find technology innovations and products
    • Working with bioventures and seed companies who have innovative R&D approaches
    • What are mid-size pharmas doing to accelerate innovative drugs?

Proposals will be selected for oral presentations primarily based on evidence in the abstract showing novelty, a practical and unique application or a detailed case study of lessons learned from a drug discovery & development project.
