2009 Event Wrap-Up

2009 Event Wrap-Up

For its ninth year, IBCs three-day Formulation Strategies for Protein Therapeutics conference presented a unique combination of cutting edge science, best practices and responses to regulatory challenges. Highlights of the 2009 program included:

  • Five leading biopharmaceutical companies detailed strategies for analyzing and controlling subvisible particle formation in biotherapeutics
  • Best practices from throughout the industry were presented on the day to day formulation challenges of aggregation, stability, protein freeze/thaw, excipient selection and production stresses at scale
  • Strategies were presented on how to improve the formulation of high concentration proteins and use prefilled syringes as a delivery vehicle
  • The opening Keynote presentation explored recent progress made in resolving the barriers to the development of novel, patient friendly delivery methods for therapeutic proteins
  • New approaches to common aggregation and stability problems were discussed via discussions of the basic protein behavior as applied to formulation development

Formulation Strategies was co-located with the BioProcess International Conference and Exhibition, offering delegates the opportunity to visit with more than 150 suppliers of bioprocess technology and services and network with over 1,500 industry scientists and engineers.

The 10th Annual Formulation Strategies conference will be held September 21-23, 2010 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

Here what past attendees had to say....

Interesting debate about QdB between audience and panel. It would be interesting to have some informal statistics on the participants - Why are they here? Lyo/PFS/liquid/other also biologic type mAb class - cept class other therapeutic vaccine would be interesting to have a bulletin board for networking and general questions.
- Jonathan Clapper, Ph.D, Senior Research Associate, Process Development, Trubion

One of the best biologics formulation conferences.
- Tapan Das, Ph.D., Senior Principal Scientist, Pfizer, Inc.

Case studies and specific examples are most helpful to the formula scientist for benchmarking purposes. I appreciated the high number of such presentations at this conference. The interactive breakout sessions were beneficial as well for benchmarking purposes.
- Susan Martin, Ph.D., Principal Scientist, Pfizer, Inc.

The IBC conference is a unique opportunity to get an overview of the latest developments in protein formulation with the technical experts from the biotech industry
- Huille, Department Head, Formulation Development, LFB

The formulation strategies conferences provide a comprehensive road map to state of the art formulation opportunities and challenges. It provides a snapshot of the latest industry challenges and methods to address these challenges
- David Hile, PhD., Senior Scientist, Formulation Development, Stryker
