Event Overview

The Diabetes therapeutic area is at a crossroads, with development programs threatened by pressures from regulatory agencies regarding safety concerns, generic competition, a mass exodus of the industry from drug development for obesity and challenges of bringing next generation science such as stem cells and genomics into this space. IBC's New Directions for Diabetes Therapeutics offers a comprehensive two-day view of the state of the art in the industry and academic research that will advance research in Type 2 Diabetes in the next five years.

The conference opens with a vision of the therapeutic objectives to be addressed with next generation drug products, ideas for identifying genetic links to the disease (and how to tie this to therapeutic development) and ways of using biomarkers and advanced research models to accelerate preclinical proof of concept studies.

The balance of the conference is dedicated to industry case studies outlining the progress of mainstream targets now in the clinic and novel targets in the preclinical stage, coupled with academic presentations detailing new findings in the biology of these targets.

By attending, you will:

  • Hear new industry and academic updates on the pharmacology of mainstream T2D target classes
  • Receive critical updates of programs in late stage clinical development
  • Explore the therapeutic objectives that will guide the development of T2D therapeutics in the next five years
  • Examine exciting new target classes and how these will compare with existing standards of care
  • Learn about the current state of the science in stratifying Diabetes patient populations
