2010 Event Wrap Up/Overview

The 2010 China Pharmaceutical R&D Summit claims yet another resounding success! Almost 250 attendees participated in the 5th Annual event held from April 5-8, 2010, which featured outstanding keynotes including Martin Mackay of Pfizer, Marc Cluzel of Sanofi-Aventis, Michel Vounatsos of MSD China dn Piao-Yang Sun of Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine!

One of the highlights of the event was the IBC China Pharma R&D Awards & Dinner. The inaugural awards ceremony was held in recognition of the individuals and companies in China who have contributed to the advancement of China's pharmaceutical industry.

The China Scientific Discovery of the Year Award, which recognized the most significant discovery in life science in China, was presented to Professor Pei Gang of Tongji University for his work on β-arrestin-2 and elucidation of the mechanism for insulin residence in type 2 diabetes.

The China Drug Discovery of the Year Award, which recognized the most significant achievement in new drug R&D milestones, was presented to Professor YuShe Yang of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica for his contribution toward the discovery, development and launch of antofloxacin, the first locally-developed NCE quinolone antibiotic.

The China R&D Achievement Award, which recognized outstanding individuals whose contributions changed the landscape, reputation and ecosystem for drug R&D in China, was presented to Dr. Li Chen of Roche China Research Center, for his pioneering efforts at building up the first drug discovery center in China by an MNC, and for his long time service to SAPA, IBC, BayHelix and the life science community.
