BioProcess International™ China 2010 will take place August 30 - September 1 in Beijing, China.
Fact: Domestic biosimilars have been on the market in China for 20 years. The first recombinant human interferon 1b was launched in 1989. Many of the international innovator drugs are already on the market in China, including Herceptin from Roche/Genentech and Humira from Abbott. Fact: Despite the large market for biopharmaceuticals in China, there is no specific process for biosimilar approval. Due to the relatively low entry barrier, there are now over 400 biopharmaceutical companies producing over 2000 drugs, among them are over 20 producers of interferon and more than a dozen EPO manufacturers. Fact: Although most of the Chinese drug developers are targeted at domestic market, a number of firms are setting their sights on international markets, and are starting to work towards WHO/ICH standards. With the huge potential for biopharmaceuticals in China, international companies are eager to get into the Chinese market but concerns over IP, regulatory, GMP and quality standards, technical and scientific skills and capabilities are keeping them back.
On the other hand, Chinese companies interested in working with international companies or to enter the international markets, are equally constrained by the lack of technical know-how, the regulatory standards or the lack there-of, as well as need to source for the right partners and investors to help bring their skill-sets and business to the next level. IBC's 2nd Annual BioProcess International™ China, scheduled for August 30-September 1, 2010, is aimed at addressing these industry trends, and to bring forth experts in the respective areas to help fill the knowledge gaps.
