Russell Wong is an expert on plastic materials for single use disposables used in the production of biopharmaceutical products. He received a BE in Chemical Engineering from the Cooper Union and an MS from the University of Utah in Bioengineering where he began his interests in the medical application of polymers. He completed his PhD at the University of Tennessee in Polymer Engineering with research into biomedical polyurethanes used for cardiovascular applications.
In 2000, Dr. Wong joined the Bayer Biological Products Division in Berkeley, California with technical responsibility for single use disposable bioprocessing systems. The Bayer facility in Berkeley is recognized by the industry for its pioneering use of plastic disposables for fermentation, purification/isolation, and downstream processing.
Dr. Wong's Keynote Presentation, "Single-Use Systems: A Strategic Look Ahead", will analyze and share his perspective on the phenomenal growth of single-use systems and their increasing acceptance in the biopharmaceutical industry. He will address the question, “What is next?” and offer key insights on the future direction of the industry based on current technology needs, quality/regulatory initiatives, and the historic basis for the single-use industry’s growth.
